The Pyramids of Teotihuacan
Visit Teotihuacan the ancient archaeological site known as “the city of the gods” to learn from our resident guide the many hidden treasures this mysterious place. We offer you a one of a kind experience seeing underground temples & pyramids that only a few visitors ever see.
Our guide is a local resident of the small town nearby, a trained archaeologist, and certified by the Tourism Secretary of Mexico.
While many might believe the Aztec are responsible for the construction of this monumental site, the real culprits were a civilization that rose to great prominence and fell centuries before the Aztec were ever in the Valley of Mexico. The mysteries of Los Teotihuacanos (the name that modern-day observers have ascribed to the architects) are still being unraveled by ongoing archeological works that you’ll see around the site.
La Basilica de Guadalupe
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a Catholic church, basilica, and national shrine of Mexico which houses the cloak containing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The shrine was built in the North of Mexico City near the hill of Tepeyac, where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin. The basilica structure which now contains Juan Diego’s cloak was completed in 1974.
One of the most important pilgrimage sites of Christianity, the basilica and tilma (cloak) are visited by several million people every year, especially around 12 December, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Feast day. The present church was constructed on the site of an earlier 16th-century church that was finished in 1709, the Old Basilica. When this basilica became dangerous due to the sinking of its foundations, a modern structure called the New Basilica was built next to it; the original image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is now housed in this New Basilica. Built between 1974 and 1976, the new Basilica has a circular floorplan so that the image of the Virgin can be seen from any point within the building.

FAQs
What should I bring with me?
The pyramid complex is located in a high desert region outside of the city with lots of sunshine. Bring a shade hat, sunblock, long-sleeve shirt, and comfortable all-terrain shoes & plenty of water. The Basilica is located in the northern part of the City, so it will be cooler than the Pyramids.
Where should we eat lunch while in Teotihuacan?
Our favorite suggestion is to go into the small town nearby called “San Juan de Teotihuacan” to eat at one of the many food vendors near the town square. Or, if you want a more comfortable experience try “La Gruta” located on the eastern side of the Pyramid of the Sun.
How much walking can we expect?
The self-guided and DIY options for Teotihuacan are very heavy on walking. The bus leaves you at one entrance, and picks you up at the other end of the park, approx 1 mile (or 2km). Our private tour has the advantage of a vehicle that will take you from one entrance to another, and to sites outside of the pyramid complex if you so choose. This option cuts down substantially on the walking, and time exposed to the powerful sun’s rays where the pyramids are located.
The Basilica is much more contained in terms of space, so you won’t need to walk as much to circumvent the whole area. However, if you choose to visit the small centuries-old chapel at the top of Tepeyac Hill, you will need to go up a path with many stairs. There are plenty of resting spots along the way to catch your breath and take in the view of the city in the distance. That being said, the chapel is visible from the base so you won’t need to climb in order to get the full experience.
Are pets allowed?
Sorry, there are no pets allowed in both the pyramid complex nor the Basilica.
